Glattbauch- bzw. Plattbauchspinnen · Gnaphosidae
Die Webspinnen-Familie der Gnaphosidae ist Biologen auch unter den älteren Namen Drassodidae und Prodidomidae bekannt. Im Deutschen werden diese Tiere im Hinblick auf ihre Anatomie "Glattbauchspinnen" und auch "Plattbauchspinnen" genannt. Die kleinen bis großen Mitglieder dieser artenreichen Familie sind meist einfarbig samtig behaart und als "Plattbauchspinnen" weniger durch ihren flachen Körperbau als vielmehr ihre zylindrischen Spinnwarzen identifierbar, die am Hinterleibsende gut sichtbar und in Ruhelage parallel angeordnet oder leicht fächerförmig gespreizt sind. Die mittleren Hinteraugen sind oft oval and diagonal. Tagsüber halten sich Glattbauchspinnen in Wohngespinsten auf, die sie unter Steinen oder Pflanzenmaterial (Blättern, Borke etc.) bauen, wo die Weibchen der meisten Arten auch ihre Eikokons bewachen; für die meist nächtliche Jagd verwenden sie keine Fangnetze, sondern fangen ihre Beute im Lauf:
Kleinere Arthropoden werden mit den Beinen gepackt und mit dem Gift der Cheliceren immobilisiert. Ein größeres Beutetier aber springt die Spinne an, beißt es und setzt es mit ihrer Spinnseide außer Gefecht: Sie läuft schnell um die Beute herum und zieht dabei aus ihren Spinnwarzen robuste Klebefäden, die sie am Boden angeheftet hat und die nun das Beutetier am Boden fixieren und sich außerdem um dessen Beine und Mundwerkzeuge wickeln, was eine effektive Gegenwehr wie auch Flucht verhindert. Diese Jagdstrategie hat sich bewährt, weil Plattbauchspinnen dafür Seidenfäden verwenden, die anderen Spinnenarten zur Grundkonstruktion und Befestigung ihres Fangnetzes dienen. Die Spinnseide härtet wie ein Sekundenkleber unmittelbar aus, bleibt aber elastisch, was sie zu einer effektiven Waffe macht, die an die Waffe einer Gladiator-Gattung erinnert: das Netz des Retiarius.
Gnaphosidae sind weltweit verbreitet, bislang wurden schon über 2500 Arten in mehr als 150 Gattungen
beschrieben. In Mitteleuropa sind mindestens 100 (meist schwer bestimmbare) Arten bekannt, im deutschsprachigen Raum mindestens 60 Arten. Solche Zahlen lassen sich in Zeiten des Klimawandels und der unkontrollierten Globalisierung nicht zuverlässig festlegen, nicht einmal als Momentaufnahme.
